Financial Aid
Students should discuss their study abroad plans with the study abroad and financial aid advisors at their home institution. Policies regarding the transfer of financial aid vary from school to school. Some colleges and universities permit students to use their full financial aid packages for study abroad programs; others will only permit students to use their state or federal financial aid (e.g., Stafford or PLUS loans or Pell Grants).
IHP Grants
Each semester, the International Honors Program (IHP) offers a limited number of grants to eligible students. These grants are awarded based on financial need. The grant funds are administered and made possible by IHP. Unfortunately, IHP is unable to provide full financial support to students. IHP grants, which generally range from $500 to $10,000, with average awards at $2,000, are meant to help defray the costs of international study and to assist students for whom a small amount of aid may mean the difference between studying abroad and staying home.
Students requiring financial aid are encouraged to apply as soon as possible and well before the closing admission date. To apply, students must submit an IHP Grant application with supporting documentation to IHP. The deadlines for IHP Grant applications and admission are the same. Generally, grant application decisions will be mailed within one to six weeks from admissions notification.

Other Options
Even if you do not receive financial aid at your home institution, you may be eligible for federal grants, loans, and other forms of aid to attend IHP. Make certain to research and inquire about financial aid before deciding that you cannot afford to study abroad.
IHP strongly encourages students to research and pursue additional funding opportunities through outside sources. Many IHP students have been successful procuring additional resources, but the process requires patience and persistence. For suggested resources, students are encouraged to meet with their home institution’s financial aid and study abroad counselors and visit their libraries.
